Overall quality of the vintage: excellent. One of the finest vintages of the century. Elegant, well-balanced wines. Excellent to keep, they can still be delicious today. White Burgundy - 1949

Red Bordeaux - 1949
Meteorological data: difficult weather conditions. January and February with no rain. Cold, wet weather for flowering. A hot summer with a heatwave: 63°C recorded in the Médoc on July 11th. Thunderstorms at the beginning of September. Good weather for the harvest, with some welcome rain. Harvest status: Dates: from September 27th. Abundance: small quantity. Quality: good, despite some problems of shatter. Perfectly ripe grapes. Overall quality of the vintage: excellent. Well-balanced and supple wines, both solid and fine. Many are still perfect for drinking. White Bordeaux - 1949
Abundance: less plentiful than usual. Overall quality of the vintage: very good. Classic, stylish wines. The best, that have aged well, are still well worth tasting. Syrupy Bordeaux - 1949
Harvest status: Dates: early, from September 25th and extending into a very dry October. Overall quality of the vintage: excellent. These wines are still very good, but now risk drying out. Champagne - 1949
Meteorological data: a slow start, with a long and difficult flowering period. An exceptionally warm and dry summer. Occasional rain and hail. Abundance: small harvest. Overall quality of the vintage: very good, excellent at their peak. Elegant, fruity and firm wines. Today, however, most have faded although some may have retained a certain charm. Rhone Valley - 1949
Overall quality of the vintage: excellent. One of the best vintages of the century for the Rhône valley, both north and south. Remarkable, rich, powerful wines and perfect balance. Excellent ageing potential.

Quality: very good. Healthy, ripe grapes. Overall quality of the vintage: excellent. Some very fine wines. Alsace White - 1949
Quality: Very fine grapes. Good alcohol content. Good level of acidity. Overall quality of the vintage: Excellent. Wines with a very good balance and good ageing potential.
