Meteorological data: lovely early spring. Late frosts in May burn the buds. Hail and diseases. Drought till the beginning of the harvest. Harvest status: Dates: early, from September 13th. Abundance: adverse weather severely reduced the harvest. Quality: very ripe and concentrated berries with thick skin and a high sugar content. The grapes have a lot of taste. Overall quality of the vintage: excellent. Probably one of the best years of the century. Generally powerful, very concentrated, extremely tannic wines, with considerable ageing potential. Some are dry, but characterised by the depth of their colour, their opulence and concentration. Others, less successfully vinified, lack cellar time and have a tendency to dry out.
