Very famous in the 19th century for its great red wines, the appellation was the first to see the notion of cru (growth) appear. Consisting mainly of Merlot, the wines are powerful, firm and deep red. Over time, in common with the neighbouring appellations of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, these wines will reflect the full expression of the great terroirs.
